Anastasia Beverly Hills Dark Brown Brow Definer Triangular Brow Pencil Review

Anastasia Beverly Hills is a brand you would have heard of, specially when it comes to their brow products, their contour kits, and with their liquid lipsticks. I had reviewed the Anastasia Dip Pomade in the shade “Chocolate” for you earlier. Today, I bring to you my views on the new release from the brand, again in their “brow” category, the triangular brow pencil, known as the brow definer.

Product Details:
This retractable pencil-which took two years to formulate and perfect-has a unique, triangular tip that can be used three different ways to outline and fill brows.

Thin: Use the sharpest point of the tip to create fine, hair-like strokes.
Medium: Use the back side of the pencil to create thicker, hair-like strokes.
Wide: Use the pencil on its side to create broad strokes.

What it does:  Featuring a unique, triangular tip, Brow Definer’s retractable pencil design is ideal for outlining and filling your brows in one fluid motion. The custom spooley end is created with a precise width and firmness to seamlessly blend color.  It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, and phthalates. This product is cruelty free.  “This is a great tool for women looking to fill sparse areas on their brows quickly and easily. The triangular tip gives you all the coverage you need, while allowing you plenty of control.”-Anastasia Soare.

Ingredients:
Behenic Acid, Mica, Rhus Succedanea Fruit Wax/Cera, Lanolin, Triethylhexanoin, Sucrose Tetrastearate Triacetate, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Sorbitan Sesquiisostearate, Hydrogen Dimethicone, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopherol, May Contain/Peut Contenir: (+/-) Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Ferric Ferrocyanide (Ci 77510). (Ingredient List may vary a little, depending on the shade).

Price:
USD $-23 for 0.19 gm.

Just for reference – the brow pencil is priced at USD $21 for 0.1 gm and the dip brow pomade is $18 for 4 gm of the product (I am not kidding!!!).

Packaging:  The product is a twist-up pencil, which can be retracted. The stick has a spoolie brush at its rear end, which is extremely good quality and soft and still effective. The brush is also covered with a secure cap.The product comes packaged in a cardboard box.

My Experience with Anastasia Beverly Hills Dark Brown Brow Definer Triangular Brow Pencil:
The Anastasia Beverly Hills line already has a regular pointed brow pencil in its collection as well as the potted dip brow version. So, while the brow pencil aims at mimicking actual hair look and gives a natural finish, the dip brow is more often than not, used for giving a more bold, made-up effect. The Brow Definer is a new product launched, which aims at a providing the ease of the brow pencil with the depth of dip brow. It is basically supposed to ease the application as well as increase the quality of the end result.

The tip is an actual triangle, which is further slanted to allow you to be able to use around the bend of your brows. It’s quite similar in shape to the Hourglass Brow pencil.

You can use the product in 3 ways – the thin side of the triangle can mimic the look of actual hair, the thicker side works well to define the outer lines and if used vertically – across the slant, the whole brow can be filled in and covered with lesser hand movements – giving you a fuller look in less time and effort.

Color:  The shade I opted for is “Dark Brown.” Since I have naturally brown hair, I felt this would work better than the shade “Chocolate,” which I own in dip brow and which I find to be a tad bit darker for me.

Pigmentation:  Fantastic pigmentation, I felt that I did not need to really put on much pressure while applying the product. While swatching it on my hand, I felt I had to go over the swatch to be able to clearly show the colour. However, while applying on the brows, I felt that the colour came onto the brows fairly quickly. I did not need to really build it up or anything.

Texture:  The texture seemed fairly creamy on application unlike most brow products which I find are generally drier. However, I do remember that my Dip Brow also used to glide extremely softly when it first came in. Subsquently, it dried up pretty fast. So, I do worry whether this product will also start drying up quickly in the tube, especially when you consider that it has a roll-up mechanism.

Lasting Power:  Despite being creamy, it has excellent longevity! It lasted the whole day, 12 hours plus, without fading or smudging.

So, is it like the best thing that happened since sliced bread? Not quite! Normally, I do not take price into account – since everybody knows their own price range. So, I personally feel that it doesn’t make sense to ding a product bases its price. If it’s a high end, boutique brand, etc – you know that it will fall into a higher price point. However, with this product, I do consider the pricing to be a con for a couple of reasons:

1. Look at the pricing of the Dip brow versus this product, especially keeping in mind the amount of actual product being sold. Are you serously paying so much more for the packaging and ease of a pen style applicator?
2. The fact that it is a twist-up product – there is higher chances of it drying up.
3. Considering that this is a product one uses daily or at least, one should use daily, imagine how much it will cost you in the longer run when you have to repurchase every month, if not before that! Bummer!

Pros of Anastasia Beverly Hills Dark Brown Brow Definer Triangular Brow Pencil:

  • Creamy, smooth, easy to apply.
  • Ease of application.
  • Hardly any learning curve.
  • Lasts whole day.
  • Does not sting the eye.
  • Great on pigmentation.
  • Does not smudge.
  • Will suit Indian skin tones perfectly.
  • Good quality spoolie.

Cons of Anastasia Beverly Hills Dark Brown Brow Definer Triangular Brow Pencil:

  • Availability in India.
  • Price to product amount ratio.
  • Chances of the product drying up are high.
  • Keeping in mind the quantity, the need for the product to be re-purchased more often is high.

IMBB Rating:
4/5

Overall Thoughts:
This is definitely a nice product and will seriously up your brow game. Look at my brows, I have scanty patchy brows. Ever since I realized how much difference the brows make, I ensure I do my brows daily, even if I skip my lipstick and for people who know my love for lipsticks – that is a serious statement!

Coming back to the product, I feel it is versatile considering that you can get a natural look or a more defined bold look or anything in-between, with this. So, if you do buy it, you will not regret it.

However, will I repurchase – at that price point? Probably not.
