How To Remove Gel Nail Polish At Home

It has been a long day at work. You’ve been battling to meet deadlines, attend conferences, and deal with people who aren’t exactly your favorite. What a better way to de-stress than to get your nails done? Sitting back and relaxing, while your nails look aesthetically pleasing in a pastel blue shade by the end of it – sounds amazing, doesn’t it? Now let’s fast forward to about two weeks later, when the gel starts to chip off. From personal experience, I know that you wouldn’t want to waste a trip to the salon just to get the polish removed. Have no fear, for I am here to tell you how to safely remove gel polish right in the comfort of your own home.

The Different Methods Of Removing A Gel Manicure
Image: Shutterstock

The Foil Method
This method involves covering your nails with a cotton ball soaked with acetone and putting a foil over it. This is the safest method and the most popular one as well. If you’ve ever been to a salon to get it removed, you would notice that they do the same thing!

You Will Need Image: Instagram

  • 10-15 cotton balls
  • 10-15 strips of aluminum foils (big enough to wrap around your fingers)
  • Pure acetone
  • Gritty nail file
  • Orange stick
  • Petroleum jelly

Step One Image: Shutterstock

The first thing you have to do is remove the top shiny coat, which is what keeps the paint from chipping. You have a better chance of removing the polish once this layer is gone. Grab a gritty nail file and buff away the top coat. You should have nails that look nearly matte and rough. Do not file beyond the top coat as you may come too close to your actual nail and damage it.

Step Two Image: Shutterstock

Apply petroleum jelly to the skin around the nails. This helps to protect the skin from the strong acetone.

Step Three Image: Shutterstock

Douse a cotton ball in acetone, and be generous about it! This is what will help the gel polish to flake off. Make sure that the acetone is 100% pure, as it is the most effective. Place the cotton ball over the nail completely.

Step Four Image: Shutterstock

Wrap the cut pieces of aluminum foil over the cotton balls. The foil will help to keep the acetone from evaporating, and will soak into the gel polish. Now you must wait for about 30 minutes. Yes, it is a time-consuming process, but hey, you got to enjoy your gel manicure for two weeks, didn’t you? Be patient and relax or watch a movie during this time.

Step Five Image: Shutterstock

After 30 minutes, check to see if the polish is flaking off. You can use either an orange stick or your nail to check. Slightly start pushing at the end of the polish. In case you find that some areas aren’t flaking off, soak it again for an additional 10 minutes. This should be enough time for the polish to come off.

Step Six Image: Shutterstock

Clean any leftover polish and wash your hands with soap to get rid of the acetone on your fingers. Trust me, you do not want to walk around like that, lest you wanna catch fire! Acetone is highly inflammable so make sure to store it away in a cool and dry place. Once you are done, apply a nail oil or cream to protect the nail, as it may look dry.

The Soaking Method
This method takes a longer time and is not as preferable, as it involves directly soaking your fingers in acetone. It still works the same and you do not need the foils or the cotton balls.

You Will Need

  • One large bowl
  • One medium bowl
  • Pure acetone
  • Gritty nail file
  • Orange stick
  • Petroleum jelly

Step One Image: Shutterstock

Fill the bigger bowl with warm water. Ensure that it is only warm and not hot. Keep the acetone away from extreme heat as it is highly inflammable. Pour the acetone into the medium and place it into the bigger bowl to achieve a double boiler effect, and leave it for 3-5 minutes.

Step Two Image: Shutterstock

In the meantime, much like the previous method, you must buff away the top coat layer with a gritty nail file. Once you are done, it should look matte. Coat the skin around the nails in petroleum jelly to protect the skin.

Step Three Image: Shutterstock

Place your fingers in the warm acetone, and soak them for about 10-15 minutes or till the polish begins to flake off.

Step Four Image: Shutterstock

Use an orange stick or your nails to push at the edge of the flaking polish. It should easily come off. If it is still stubborn, you may soak them for a while longer.

Step Five Image: Shutterstock

Clean up any leftover polish and wash your hands with soap to completely remove the acetone on your fingers. Your nails will probably look and feel dry at this point, so make sure to use nail cream and cuticle oil.

There you go! Two sure shot methods to safely remove a gel manicure. Now, you no longer have to break your schedule, waste time and money, and go all the way to the salon to get the gel polish removed. Okay, now I’m going to go and schedule a gel manicure for myself, and so should you!

These days the power of essential oils is a frequent topic among common people, but experts and scientists as well. Namely, they have a wide application. As an example, a lot of people use them as a crucial ingredient in potent homemade shampoos for treatment of dandruff to hair loss.

When it comes to hair loss, this health and aesthetic issue is common for both men and women. Although there are numerous products sold on the market, a small percentage of them actually yield positive results. Moreover, not everyone is able to afford them.

This homemade shampoo is the right choice for you if you struggle with hair loss, but you don’t want to spend too much money.

How to prepare it:

You need to purchase a neutral pH shampoo and add 2 capsules of vitamin E and 10 drops of rosemary and lemon essential oil each. Then, apply from the shampoo on your wet hair and massage it for 10 minutes. Before rinsing, leave it for 10 minutes.

Lack of moisture can be the reason behind dry and cracked feet, but cracked feet can also be caused by medical conditions as well. Elderly people, those with diabetes, or people with athlete’s foot are all at risk for developing severely cracked feet. The fissures of the feet affect the epidermis sometimes the cracks move deep into dermis causing severe pain. Moreover, zinc and omega 3 fatty acids can lead to cracked feet.

Other causes include:

  • standing for long hours
  • using harsh soaps
  • cold weather
  • continuous exposure to water
  • being overweight
  • wearing improper footwear.

Conditions like eczema, psoriasis, thyroid disease and diabetes can also contribute to this problem.

Fortunately, there is a way to speed up the process with two simple ingredients.

This recipe includes milk and baking soda. The lactic acid in the milk exfoliates the top layers of the dead skin, which helps your skin glow. The baking soda gently buffs away your tougher calluses and dry patches.

  • 2 – 4 cups of milk
  • 1 tbsp. of baking soda

  • Warm the milk.
  • Pour the milk into a good sized bowl. You need to be able to fit both feet in the container at the same time, side-by-side.
  • Soak your feet in the milk for around 5 minutes, and then grab your baking soda. Lightly sprinkle a liberal amount of the powder into your foot bath.
  • Scrub your feet while giving plenty of attention to areas where the skin is usually harder, or thicker. Massage plenty of the mixture into these areas.
  • After scrubbing, let your feet soak for another five minutes.
  • Clean your feet with warm water, dry thoroughly and apply foot cream.

Repeat the procedure at least once a week.

The Friend In Need, Indeed! Why Himalaya’s Gentle Exfoliating Walnut Scrub Is Your Skin’s Best Frien…

Sometimes, you are tangled in the web of busy schedules and this makes it so difficult for you to care for your skin. Who has the time to go for those indulgent, expensive, monthly facials? Although some do, I like to spend my free time lazing around. I would rather cuddle up in bed with a good book than make my way to a salon for a facial.

But neglecting my skin didn’t help much. I started noticing blackheads and whiteheads on my otherwise clear skin. It also seemed extremely dull, until I chanced upon Himalaya’s Gentle Exfoliating Walnut Scrub. It truly proved to be that perfect skin care partner for someone like me who doesn’t pay much heed to skin care.

Why Is It Essential To Use A Face Scrub?
It’s great that you follow a proper CTM routine. But if you don’t exfoliate your skin, it won’t be as healthy as it possibly could be. So, what is exfoliation? It simply means using light abrasives to remove the dead skin cells that pile up on the surface of the skin. The wrong exfoliator can make it look, rough, dry, and dull. You tend to notice the dullness more as you age. Also, as the dead skin piles up, your pores tend to get blocked and your skin releases excess oils, which can lead to acne and blemishes.

With the right exfoliation, the dead skin is peeled off, and fresh, new skin is revealed. Also, it creates a passage for the moisturizer to seep into the skin, making it more effective. On the whole, scrubbing your face will make sure your skin is replenished and rejuvenated.

Himalaya’s Gentle Exfoliating Walnut Scrub is perfect if you have normal skin. It gently exfoliates your skin and removes the grime that your usual face wash leaves behind. It also contains crab apple, which acts as a soothing antiseptic as well as a keratolytic agent that loosens dead skin. The walnut shells are broken down into granules, which, as you scrub, gently remove blackheads and dead cells. The wheat germ oil in the scrub is rich in Vitamin E. Together, these ingredients nourish, cleanse, and moisturize your skin and give it a beautiful, healthy glow.

It comes in an elegant white tube, which makes it very easy to use and carry around. When you smear some on your palms, it oozes out a gentle, relaxing, fruity fragrance. You can tell it is natural and herbal. The product itself is smooth and soft, with the scrub particles folded in. It is gentle on your skin and doesn’t dry out your skin once you use it. It also removes dead skin effectively.

To use, I usually squeeze a little bit of the product on my fingers, and spread it across my damp skin (face+neck). I then use clockwise movements and massage the skin with my fingertips. I do this all over the face and neck area for a good five minutes. This inculcates proper circulation of blood, giving the skin a nice warm glow. The results are fantastic.

The shelf life of this product is about 36 months from the date of manufacturing and is extremely affordable. I would rate it 4.5/5.

This product is a friend in need, indeed. For all the times you need to put on your best face on, but don’t seem to find the time to do it, you can just give yourself a quick scrub and be your most confident self. This product gives your regular face pack even better results. Your skin is super ready to take in the nutrients from the pack. They say that you must give yourself a face scrub at least once a week for clean, healthy skin. It’s true. I have started doing that, and my blackheads and whiteheads have already reduced. My skin is happy! So, let me quickly sum up the pros and cons so that you can decide if you want to invest in this product or not.

The Big Positives

  • This product helps you stimulate skin renewal, giving you fresh bright skin.
  • The dead skin is removed with ease.
  • You will notice your skin becoming both smooth and soft.
  • The fragrance of the product is soothing.
  • Being a herbal product, it has very few chemical effects.
  • The skin never feels dry after use.
  • The way the product is packaged in a tube makes it convenient for use – it is portable and spill proof.
  • The product will very well fit in your budget.
  • It is the easiest way to spruce up your skin when you don’t have much time.

The Minute Negatives

  •  You must keep in mind that the product is only a scrub that cleanses your skin. If you are looking for skin whitening or tan removal, this is not the product for you. It will not help you achieve the results you are looking for.
  • The minute scrub particles can be quite sharp, so if you have sensitive skin, you might want to do a patch test and see how the product feels on your skin before you use it on your face.

If you are convinced enough, you could buy this product on the Himalaya Herbals website.

8 Most Effective Medicines that Boost Hair Growth

Hello friends,

How are you all? It seems like I am obsessed with IMBB. Well, today we would be talking about hair growth and all the medicines that can help you grow your hair long. Hair growth is a natural process that can get affected due to many factors. All these factors are: bad diet, stress, pollution, and many other things. These factors generally lead to hair problems like dandruff, hair fall, hair growth issues and even scalp infections. At the initial stages, we recommend you try easy home remedies and try some ayurvedic tips but, if nothing works at all, here are some effective medicines you can start with the help of your physician.

1. Cortisone

2. Minoxidil
Minoxidil is one among the popular medicines that is preferred by doctors when it comes to hair growth. Due to 5 per cent of Rogaine in this medicine, it helps to boost hair growth. However, the worst part of this medicine is that your hair stops growing or you may suffer hair loss if you stop consuming the medicine.

3. Finasteride
Finasteride is similar to Minoxidil that has been proven effective in the cases where men had gone completely bald. You should avoid applying this medicine on the hairline and concentrate more on the hair crown area. This works best when used in ointment form.

4. Silicea

If you prefer homoeopathic medicines, Silicea is the best type of medicine that boosts hair growth. It helps nourish the hair follicles and also helps in promoting hair growth. Silicea is available in the form of granules and liquid as well. Silicea is commonly termed as the ‘homoeopathic cell salts’ as it is a part of the 12 tissue salts.

5. Diphenylcyclopropenone (DPCP)

6. Kalium Carbonicum
Kalium Carbonicum is formed with potassium carbonate and is very efficient at treating hair- related problems. This homoeopathy medicine is remarkably beneficial in handling hair thinning and drying of hair. Girls, you should not take this medicine without the consent of your doctor as the dosage needs to be mentioned according to your hair condition.

7. Nioxin Vitamins
This medicine is truly and purely based on Nioxin vitamins that are a very important supplement that boosts growth. It helps to strengthen the hair roots and also helps to make your hair grow faster. Nioxin Vitamins are found in shampoo, lotions and conditions that should be used on a daily basis. You should concentrate more on the areas where hair does not exist.

Have Trouble Sleeping At Night? These 9 Tips Might Help You!

Sleep is one of the fundamental mainstays and pillars of Maharshi Ayurveda. It plays an equally important role as that of diet when it comes to maintaining health and balance in the body. It has tremendous health benefits as it helps in relieving stress and restoring vitality. While we are asleep, our body works to repair and rejuvenate the tissues.

Sleep impacts each and every part of our lives, ranging from our work performance to our long-term mental and physical health. But, quite often, we spend sleepless nights, or our eyes suddenly pop open at 2 am, and we just can’t fall asleep again. This happens because of sleep imbalance in our body, which is generally caused due to a number of factors. According to Ayurveda, sleep imbalance is usually caused due to an imbalance in the three doshas namely, vata, kapha, and pitta doshas.

Usually, when the coordination between dhi (learning), dhirti (retention), and smriti (recall) becomes weak, a vata sleep imbalance occurs, where even if you are trying to fall asleep, your mind will be continuously thinking of the events that happened today or in the past, and you’ll be unable to detach yourself from the emotions. This is why you won’t be able to sleep even if you wish to. And even if you fall asleep by chance, you’ll constantly wake up either due to restlessness or because your mind is not stable.

Does this happen to you that even after sleeping for very long, you feel restless, exhausted, or lethargic the whole day? This happens if you’re suffering from a kapha related sleep disorder.

If you’re suffering from a pitta sleep disorder, you will face absolutely no trouble in falling asleep, but you will often end up waking up in the wee hours of the morning. You will face a lot of trouble in falling asleep again for several hours, and eventually, you might not sleep at all. Usually, people with a pitta imbalance in the body or people suffering from emotional trauma face this type of sleep disorder.

Though lack of sleep is a major problem, a few simple and minor tweaks in your daily lifestyle can promote a sound, healthy, and effortless sleep.

1. Ditch Caffeine, Sugar, And Stimulants
Image: Shutterstock

All these things are sleep-suckers, and thus, it is always better to avoid having them after 3 pm.

2. Drink A Cup Of Hot Milk
Image: Shutterstock

Milk is a great source of tryptophan, which induces sleep in the body. Drink a glass of hot milk along with one-fourth teaspoon of nutmeg for a sound sleep. If your body type is pitta, you can add shatavari to the milk. People with kapha body type may add turmeric, and people with vata body type can add garlic to the milk.

3. Oil Massage Or Abhyanga
Image: Shutterstock

Oil massage is a wonderful way to soothe the nervous system and, thereby, induce sleep. Massaging bhringraj oil on the scalp and the foot helps in facilitating good sleep. If you do not want to wash your hair the next morning, and that’s why you are unwilling to massage oil onto your scalp, dab a drop or two of oil onto your temple before going to bed.

4. Switch Off Your Electronic Gadgets
Image: Shutterstock

Switch off all electronic gadgets such as your mobile, laptop, and TV at least an hour before you sleep. Doing this will help calm your nervous system and get you into the mood to sleep.

5. Practice Meditation
Image: Shutterstock

The health benefits of meditation are vast. Hence, it is good for maintaining the overall health of your body. Meditate for 10-15 minutes before going to bed. This will relax your body and induce a sound sleep.

6. Practice Yoga
Image: Shutterstock

Practicing yoga, especially pranayama, is also supposed to be very beneficial to calm down and relax the body and the nervous system. Simple breathing exercises will also help in inducing sleep.

7. Have A Healthy Diet
Image: Shutterstock

A healthy diet is vital for maintaining good health. Avoid heavy, spicy, or aggravating foods as they can cause acidity or indigestion, which can affect the sleep cycle. It is suggested to have a light meal two to three hours before going to bed for proper digestion and a sound sleep.

8. Take The Help Of Herbs
Image: Shutterstock

There are a few herbs that relax your nerves and facilitate a peaceful sleep. Some of them are ashwagandha, tagar, and shankhpushpi.

9. Set Up A Proper Sleep Routine
Image: Shutterstock

Adhering to a proper sleep routine keeps your biological clock steady and improves your sleep.

Following these tips regularly will definitely help you sleep better. Along with these, also make sure that your room is dark enough to help you sleep properly.

8 Foods That Can Kill Your Intelligence

Do you face trouble focussing on something? Do you constantly experience a ‘brain fog’?

These days, everyone is talking about nutrition. What shall I eat that will help me to lose weight? What shall I eat to gain a few pounds? What shall I eat to improve my memory? These are some common questions circulating around.

Every food is good as long as you eat it in the right quantity and at the right time. But, were you aware that there are a few foods that can kill your intelligence? They are bad for your brain and reduce its ability to focus. Mentioned below are the foods that contribute to killing your intelligence (slowly, but surely!).

1. Alcohol
Image: Istock

We all know that excessive alcohol consumption is bad for our health as it damages the liver. Along with it, alcohol consumption also causes brain fog, which, in other terms, is also called mental confusion. It is a state where you cannot recall past events or the names of a few items and you’re unable to recall whether certain events happened to you in reality or if they were just dreams.

2. Artificial Sweeteners
Image: Istock

Though they contain fewer calories and help in losing weight, their consumption has major drawbacks. If taken for a prolonged period, they can cause brain damage and also kill your intelligence.

3. Junk Food
Image: Istock

Junk food contains a lot of sugar, preservatives, and additives that not only make you crave more of them but also introduce free radicals in your body, which have a negative impact on the brain.

4. Nicotine
Image: Istock

Nicotine has never been considered good for consumption as it creates an obstacle in the flow of blood, glucose, and oxygen in the body. It also causes premature aging and increases the risk of cancer and loss of intelligence.

5. Processed Protein
Image: Istock

Foods containing processed proteins, such as hot dogs or sausages, have exactly the opposite reaction on the body than that of natural proteins and can cause damage to the brain.

6. Fructose (Sugary Products)
Image: Istock

It is always recommended to avoid sugary foods that are rich in fructose since they can lead to neurological problems and interfere with the memory. They can also affect the ability of the brain to learn new things.

7. Salty Food
Image: Istock

Salty foods, especially pickles, can turn out to be brain killers if consumed excessively. Since salt affects blood pressure, it can also take a toll on the memory and affect your intelligence.

8. Fried Food
Image: Istock

Fried foods contain monosodium glutamate i.e. MSG that clogs the arteries and has been linked to brain damage.

Now that you are aware that these foods can cause damage to your brain, avoid eating them. Choose health!

Top 3 Milk Alternatives with Tasty Recipes and Health Benefits

Lactose intolerance or dairy intolerance is largely known to be a digestive problem, but it is actually a problem which affects more of us than we would like to think! While less than 5% of the UK population is affected, up to 50% of the populations of South America, Africa, and Asia suffer from it, and most of the time it remains undiagnosed. It’s caused when a person doesn’t have an enzyme called lactase, which breaks down the natural sugar found in animal milk and milk products, such as yogurt and cheese. Identifying the disease is not tough, but owing to its distinctive symptoms such as to avoid bloating, cramps and abdominal pain is difficult.

As we get better at diagnosing such intolerances, the number of healthy alternatives to dairy in shops and the number of people drinking them is rising. Even if you are not lactose intolerant, you can try different varieties of milk like oat milk, soya milk, hazelnut milk and almond milk.

Most milk alternatives are now fortified with calcium, which helps build strong bones and teeth, and ensures that blood clots normally. They also have vitamin D, which is important for encouraging the absorption of calcium from food so that people have many of the benefits of normal milk.

Why Should you Seek an Alternative to Cow Milk?
From our very childhood, we have been programmed to believe that we must drink milk to get calcium. Non-milk drinkers have a difficult time getting their required dose of calcium, but not any longer as there are many alternatives to cow milk, which are not only nutritious but also a delicious addition to cereals and beverages.

  • If you are vegan -Animal rights activists propagate the fact that cruelty is inherent in industrial farming. The animals are treated very badly, giving them enough reason to skip cow’s milk for other healthier and more humane alternatives. For people who are vegan, the other alternatives of milk suit them just right, as they stay away from animal products.

  • The calcium issue – There is a school of thought propagating the idea that people who drink milk suffer from osteoporosis, a debilitating bone disorder, unlike people living in China, who stay away from milk and yet have the least incidences of this disease. This is contrary to the popular perception that cow milk prevents osteoporosis. So there are conflicting reports on the same.
  • Too many hormones – There are a number of hormones in milk, which harm our body in more ways than one, including pituitary, steroid, hypothalamus, and thyroid hormone ill effects.
  • Antibiotics – Currently, cows are in such a state of disease and mistreatment that they are continually being injected with antibiotic medicines, and rubbed down with chemical-laden ointments which seep into their body. Finally when we drink milk, we end up ingesting these antibiotics.

Almond Milk
Now that we know the potentially harmful effects of cow’s milk, we must think of milk alternatives, which are not only nutritionally sound but also taste good. Let us explore the benefits of milk alternatives, or rather almond milk, which nutritionally, comes a close second to cow milk.

  • Alzheimer’s disease  Prevention-Almond milk is full of vitamin D, which is necessary for cell generation and also bolsters the immunity of the body, thus helping by preventing degenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s disease.
